I love to walk at night but I don’t like to flash the light right at my cat. Sometimes it is good to find her because her eyes reflect back at me and it is cute to see her start running as fast as she can – bolting right toward me.
But here is an idea I’ve wanted to develop after many nights of wishing I had softer light. I would always take my flashlight and point it to the ground or angled toward my legs. If I was wearing blue pants, the light would softly reflect around me with a little blue glow. Whatever color I happened to be wearing became part of the light.
Why don’t we have lights on a belt? Hands free… Yes of course you could wear a head lamp but I wanted to make more of a softer feel for when I go for a walk. This would be perfect for when you want to walk with your dog, cat, raccoon, ferret or best friend.
Of course I still have to make a prototype and figure out how to get the best glow effect. But I want to make this because I already know the basic idea works. I’ve been doing it with my flashlight for years. Now I want to see if I can make it hands-free. Just one of the many ideas that I have that are coming out of my dusty pile of ideas.
Maybe the lights don’t have to be angled and this could be easily made. But I think this is the best part of the Make it Made blogs. It gets you thinking – How do we make this the best way possible and does it really need a dimmer? Maybe we could already make this from things we have at home. One thing is for sure though if it is made I will be the first to line up and buy one…
Just think—for a dog walker, this would be a must! Or for anyone who wants their hands free. Now would this belt be good to lie down on your back and look under a car… not so much.
Am I going to go grab a belt and glue some lights to it… Probably but having a visual example of how awesome the reflected light will be hard to capture. (you can try it… with just a regular flash light and see what I mean) but the prototype is my next step.
