The skies have been very interesting to watch. If only my new phone could capture some of the wild events that have been happening. The above picture was taken by a really awesome photographer on unsplash.com named David Gylland
Trees tried to pop this year but with the weather there was a lot of confusion. One day will be in the 30’s the next day 90’s. Lots of trees skipped the flowering part of spring.

There are only a couple of days in the spring when butterfly flowers come up. They are called Dutchman’s breeches (Dicentra cucullaria). I love seeing these! 💜
Multiple tornados have tried to come through…
They never hit but this is right after a good one.

Behind me was all clouded gloom but looking over across the street there was a sweet patch of blue – like the storm had ripped the sky there…
(Also from the same storm)
I have taken pictures like this before in prior years but I guess having hail this big or bigger is starting to become a regular type of event!

My neighbors said that a town close by had hail the size of their whole palm…
I guess we lucked out.
Here is some more beauty that has popped up so far.

These are called springbeauty – Claytonia lanceolata. They have tubers in the ground that are similar to potatoes. You can eat these. (but if you ever forage for food you have to be careful. Know what you are eating disclaimer…)
These speckled leaves are called Trillium. While tromping through the woods these are special to see. It takes 7 years for these plants to come up from the ground. They usually come up in groups. You can always tell what they are (the leaves remind me of a frog). I have only seen red and white blooms but there are many different flower colors that these come in.

Stinging nettle. Not the best picture here but these plants like to live on hillsides near water. Very medicinal. We try to collect these plants when the are just coming up. The plant gets to be a couple feet tall and if you don’t handle with care they could actually sting you. You can sauté them up like spinach. We also dry them out and make tinctures/tea. (Again forage with caution – you should know what you are collecting and all the look a-likes/potential dangers involved.)

My cat Key is such a bright light in my world. I looked over at her and the sun was shining right on her heart. 💝 Happy Spring everyone!
I hope you are enjoying new beginnings.
