Finds on the Farm

Of course the skies in Iowa fill most of my camera.

Here are some interesting things on the farm that I happen to stumble upon.

Sometimes I don’t even have to leave my cabin.

There were about five or six female turkeys walking through my back yard then I see a Tom, he was definitely chasing the ladies and strutting his stuff. I have never seen a male as big and puffy as he was. This was about fifteen feet from my cabin.

Another interesting friend I saw at the end of May.

A red fox! I saw his female friend a couple days later but I didn’t get a good picture of her and she was a lot smaller.

I was walking through the prairie and saw a small pod of some sort. I had to take a picture to find out what it was. A praying mantis birthing pod! The bottom of their home is flat you can’t really tell from these pictures. I am not sure if this green mantis was in this pod (I found earlier in the spring) but I was so happy to hang out with him on my front porch for quite some time last week.

This is the first year I found a deer shed. With all the deer around here I am kind of surprised it took so long.  I have found one before, but it didn’t count because I was at my friends house, and I was just investigating what my friends dog was sniffing.

Of course my cat had to check it out. She checks out everything ❤ 😀

I am so happy to say that I get to see bald eagles sometimes every day. It seems to go in spurts. Last year while on a short drive we saw ten eagles in one day!!

On a walk I looked way up in the trees – way up… I saw a huge ball I just had to zoom in to see what it was… Looks to be an old paper wasps nest.

Moral of the story look way up in trees.

I love mushrooms. I have to stop every time I see some. I am sure in some of my other blogs I have gushed about mushrooms.

Walk a mile in the woods and try not to look – can’t do it.

I found a perfect staff for my Mage costume. I just thought it would be an awesome walking stick. It is actually a large vine that someone must of chopped off and threw in the creek. That summer the creek bed was dry so Key (my kitty) and I went down there quite a bit. This was a good find for my niece asked me what I was going to be for Halloween. I had to represent. Ha! This was fun.

I would love to hear about your finds…
